Sizes for Clothes, German and International Sizes at Body Height in cm
All given sizes in our shop are directly related to the body height. In most cases sizes are changing in 10-centimeter-steps (150, 160, 170, ...)
In general martial arts uniforms are a little bit larger, even if you consider the shrinking process at the first washing as far as it concerns fabric made of cotton. The sizes apply from the half of the next smaller to the half of the next higher size.
Thus the size 170 (cm) should fit persons with a body height from 165 to 175 cm.
Attention: If you are slim please select the next smaller size if you are uncertain!

Note: If for instance the size 170 or 180 will fit you at a height of 175 cm depends on several factors.
First you should consider, that a not prewashed or not pre-shrunk uniform made of cotton will shrink when washing which will directly depend on how hot you are washing.
However even more important at the deciding for the right size is your physique. Do you have a more powerful built you should better take the size 180, otherwise the size 170 is more recommendable. At the bigger sizes especially shoulders and legs are wider to fit better. Therefore it might be, that even the size 170 will fit you.
General speaking: A uniform in size 170 is made for body heights between 165-175 cm; size 180 respectively one 10-cm-step above. If you wash your uniform at 30-40 degrees Celsius (ie. you don't boil the clothes) then they will not shrink during washing.

Belt Length in cm at Body Height in cm
Note: As rule of thumb for determining the optimum belt length:
2x waist circumference in cm + 2x wished length of both belt ends (recommendation: 20-40 cm per side = 40 - 80 cm) + 15 cm belt knot
a waist circumference of 90 cm requires the following belt length: 2x 90 cm + 2x 30 cm + 15 cm = 255 cm
At intermediate sizes we always recommend to take the next size. In case of the above given example: lenght 260 cm.

Japanese Sizes / Hakama Sizes
All sizes referr to the body height. Usually sizes will change in 10-cm-steps (150, 160, 170, ...)

Thus the size 180 (cm) should fit persons with a body height from 175 to 185 cm.

The shoe size will depend on length and width of the feets. As with the sizes for clothes there exist various international systems for shoe sizes. At some systems there are even differences in the sizes of shoes at same foot length for women and men.
