The chain shirt has the advantage that it adapts to the body of a normal breastplate. So you could also sit comfortably on the horse. Therefore, the chain shirt had side slits. In a chainmail approximately 20,000 rings were processed. It can be seen that only wealthy could afford such a fighter body protection. In the 12th and 13th centuries, the sleeves were longer and also included gloves. Against crossbow projectiles and blows with lances the chain mail could not provide adequate protection. Even against the emerging firearms, the chain mail had no chance. The preparation of this chain mail takes about 25 working days.
