Goju-Ryu (hard-soft style) - is one of the four major karate styles with a long tradition going back. It contains very many elements of ancient Chinese boxing of the (17th to 19th century. The name Goju-Ryu was chosen by Chojun Miyagi (1888-1953). Was when one of his students asked at a screening in Japan of a Kobudo Master which school he belonged, he knew no answer. When the student reported the incident to his master, Miyagi himself decided the style Goju (hard-soft) to name after a long time kept secret Bubishi, in the third sentence of eight rules of pugilism reads: Everything in the universe is breathing hard and soft Goju-Ryu in 1933 was officially recognized by the Japanese all Martial Arts Association..

Goju-Ryu is assigned to the South and the Inner School, which manifests itself in the kata by deep stalls, many open techniques and emphasis on breathing. Unlike Shotokan, Shito-Ryu and Wado-ryu Goju-Ryu has emerged as the only style mainly from Shorei-Ryu.

After Miyagi's death, the system was split into Hauptstromungen of Okinawa Goju-Ryu and Goju-Kai Japanese. The latter was (The Cat) mainly composed by his pupil and successor official in Japan Gogen Yamaguchi. One of his students Yamada Shihan went in the 70 years after Germany and founded here some dojos. Reinhold Leinwetter, a student Yamada s turn was my teacher, when I worked out the Goju-ryu.
Meanwhile, I am working intensively with Shotokan and Shito-Ryu katas.
As base coach I was asked often - especially of karate, the train not Goju-ryu, whether it is a training video or Reference for the Goju-Ryu kata.
